Tune Up Your Songwriting Workshop – Wed, 10/12

Come to the Willy St. Co-op East on Wednesday, October 12th for the Tune Up Your Songwriting workshop with host Rich Baumann.

Bring your instrument if you are interested in sharing an original song at the end of the workshop or come with a recording of a favorite song for the group to listen to and discuss. A CD player will be available.

This event starts with a 5:30 potluck/meet and greet followed by the 6:30 workshop. Admission is a suggested $5-15 donation.

Songwriter Retreat 7/29-7/31

The Madison Songwriters Guild is teaming up with folk icon Tret Fure for a Songwriter Retreat called “The Joy of Self Expression,” scheduled for July 29-31 at Bethel Horizons in Dodgeville. Last year’s retreat with Tret got rave reviews from everyone who attended, so put this one on your calendar now.

The cost is $249 including the workshop and 2 mights of lodging and meals, or $449 for 2 people. Contact Rich Baumann for questions or registration, or you can register directly on Tret’s site.

Special Critique/Workshop – Wed., 5/18

Plan to head over to Noodles & Co., 3600 University Avenue on Wednesday, May 18th at 7 p.m. for this month’s song critique, which is a special combined event with our Tune Up Your Songwriting workshop. This month’s event features a very special guest imported from England, Zoe Mulford, who will share her experiences as a songwriter and touring musician and pass on some of the lessons she has learned along the way.

Zoe is an award winning folk artist who plays guitar and banjo and lives in the north of England. By turns powerful and funny, her songs may consider anything from Franklin’s doomed polar expedition to the neglected vegetables in her refrigerator. She is a warm and engaging performer who draws on the traditional music of the US and the British Isles to make sense of the modern world.

Zoe will be available to critique songs in the second half of the workshop, so bring a song or lyric to play live or on CD and get some immediate feedback.

Come to the Willy St. Co-op East on Wednesday, April 13th for the workshop, Tune Up Your Songwriting.  Songwriter, engineer, producer and entrepreneur Tret Fure will discuss her experience writing and performing followed by a group discussion hosted by Rich Baumann.

There may be time to share original songs at the end of the workshop, so please bring your instrument if you are interested. As part of the workshop, you are invited to bring a recording of a favorite song for the group to listen to, yours or someone else’s. A CD player will be available.

April Song Showdown Winner!
