Open Song Critique – Wed, Feb 18th

MSG holds its monthly song critique on Wednesday, February 18th at 7 p.m.
at Noodles & Company on University Avenue. Bring a song or lyric to play
live or on a CD and get instant feedback from local songwriters, and give
some of your own. Incomplete, new or nearly new songs are encouraged.

Recording Opportunity – Sat, 8/11

Randy’s Recording and MSG are pleased to offer a recording seminar for the performing songwriter on Saturday, August 11th. Sign up to record a basic demo (guitar/piano and voice) at Randy Green’s award-winning local studio and learn about the recording process as you go. At the end the group will evaluate the demos and each songwriter will go home with his or her recording, plus a compilation of the other demos done that day. Read more »

Tune Up Your Songwriting – Wed, 8/8

Drive, run or bike on down to the Willy St. Co-op East on Wednesday, August 8th for the return of Tune Up Your Songwriting with host Rich Baumann and this month’s guest presenter, storyteller Reid Miller. This event is designed to give songwriters musical food for thought in a friendly atmosphere with other local songwriters.

Bring your instrument to share a song at the end of the workshop or come with a CD recording of a favorite song for the group to listen to and discuss.  This event starts with a 5:30 potluck/meet and greet followed by the 6:30 workshop. Admission is a suggested $5-15 donation.

Songwriters Retreat – 6/22 to 6/24

It’s not too late to sign up for Madison Songwriters Guild’s 3rd annual Songwriters Retreat from June 22-24th, 2012.

This year’s retreat will be hosted by Dan Hazlett. Dan is a producer, sound engineer, playwright, musician, singer, songwriter and businessman who has achieved notoriety in events and songwriting contests nationwide, and has worked with some truly top notch musicians.

Cost is $289 with some scholarships available and includes meals and lodging at the Bethel Horizons Retreat Center, 4651 County Road Zz in Dodgeville, WI, 53533.

Songwriting Workshop – Monday, 4/9

Nashville singer/songwriter/publisher Washuntara hosts an evening of songwriting mentoring on Monday, April 9th. Washuntara is a talented songwriter and performer who has worked as a songwriter in the country music capital of the world for the past 20 years, owns his own music publishing company, Passionworks, and has enjoyed success performing and writing in Australia, Europe and America.

Join him at the Center for Conscious Living on Monday, April 9th from 7-9:30 PM for an evening of songwriting. The cost is $25.

Then, return to the Center on Friday, April 13th at 7:30 pm for an intimate performance by this poignant and insightful songwriter. Tickets for the performance are $8 in advance or $10 at the door and can be obtained through the Center’s website under Special Events.
