Red Dragon TV looking for hosts

Red Dragon TV wants on-air talent! They need rotating hosts for their weekly open mic and feature artists for their Friday night program, “Red Dragon Concert Stage.” For more details about the open mic or the Friday night show, contact Ari John Whitewolf at reddragon@reddragontv.tv.

Early Songwriters in the Round – January 26th

Stop into The Brink Lounge on Wednesday, January 26th at 6:00 p.m. for Madison Songwriters Guild’s Songwriters in the Round and hear some great original music in a comfortable setting for only 5 bucks.

January’s featured songwriters:
Wolfgang Lochner – winner of the 2010 Madison Songwriters Guild Song Showdown and host of the 2011 Song Showdown.
Windsor Marie – winner of the 2010 Song Showdown in October with their original tune, “Vulture Eye,” Windsor Marie is a collaboration between Rockwell Windsor Rice on guitar, and Anne Marie Tripp on vocals.
John Crossman – songwriter, living room recorder and perennial participant in February Album Writing Month (FAWM).

Song Critique – 1/19 @ 7 pm

The next song critique happens on Wednesday, January 19th at 7 p.m. at Noodles & Co., 3600 University Avenue. New and nearly new songs are recommended, but any and all are welcome. Give and get instant feedback on your tunes from a live studio audience of local songwriters. Check out the Events page for more details.

Tune Up Your Songwriting! 1/12 – New Event!

Come to the Willy St. Co-op East on Wednesday, January 12th for the debut of Tune Up Your Songwriting! Jim Schwall and Dave Schindele will present a workshop about songwriting and lead a discussion. As part of the workshop, you are invited to bring a recording of a favorite song for the group to discuss. Several will be selected to illustrate what makes a good song. A CD player will be available.

This event starts with a 5:30 potluck/meet and greet followed by the 6:30 workshop.

Willy St. Co-op East is located at 1221 Williamson St. in Madison. Out of consideration for Co-op shoppers, please park on the street. There will be some time to share original songs at the end of the workshop, so please bring your instrument if you are interested.

Song Showdown Winner Announced!

Congratulations to 2010’s Song Showdown winner, Wolfgang Lochner!

Wolfgang took home bragging rights and a nice bundle of prizes including an Alchemy gift certificate and some recording time at local, award-winning Paradyme Productions recording studio when his song “MC Hammer” won the night on Wednesday, December 8th at The Alchemy

Nine fine local songwriters competed in the final, which was the culmination of a year of monthly Song Showdown winners. The caliber of the songs was so good that at one point, one of the judges was heard to remark that an enormous tie might be the outcome.

The Madison Songwriters Guild would like to thank Jim Schwall for hosting the Song Showdown every month, and the venue, The Alchemy, for their support.

Song Critique added – December 15th

The last Madison Songwriters Guild Song Critique of 2010 is scheduled for Wednesday, December 15th at 7 p.m. at Noodles & Co., 3600 University Avenue in Madison. Bring a tune and get some immediate feedback from listeners/songwriters or come to hear some brand new music from local talent. Songwriter Night – 12/9 @ Water House Foods

This Thursday night, Rich Baumann and friends share original music at Water House Foods located at 110 East Lake Street in scenic downtown Lake Mills. The music starts at 6:30 p.m. and costs a paltry 5 bucks. Take a short drive out to Water House Foods and support great music at a great new venue.

Final Song Showdown of 2010!

Your last chance to see the Madison Songwriters Guild Song Showdown happens next Wednesday, December 8th at 8:30 p.m. at The Alchemy, located at 1980 Atwood Avenue in Madison. There is no cover charge.

This grand finale is a competition for the “Song of the Year” title among the Showdown’s monthly winners. The big winner walks away with an Alchemy gift certificate and a professional recording of the chosen song at the award-winning Paradyme Productions recording studio.

Monthly winners have included these fine local songwriters: Heather Abney, Ryan Gavin, Hugh G. Gogh, Ivan & Steph, Maxwell James, Wolfgang Lochner, Vanessa Tortolano, Anna Vogelzang and Windsor Marie.

MSG members are encouraged to come and help host Jim Schwall judge the competition. Check out the events page for more information.

Annual Membership Meeting – 11/21

Madison Songwriters Guild will hold its Annual Membership meeting on Sunday Nov.21st at Noodles & Co., 3600 University Avenue. There will be a “meet & greet” from 1-2 pm and the meeting will start at 2:00pm. We’ll be electing Board of Director members and officers and plotting the course for MSG for the coming year. With any luck the actual meeting will take less than an hour.

New members are encouraged to attend and there will be someone on hand to sign you up if you want to join. This is a great opportunity to find out what this group is all about and to meet some local songwriters, so come with your questions and suggestions and talk to members, both experienced and new.

Bring your instruments, we’ll be having a song-circle after the meeting!

Songwriters in the Round, October 27th
