Songwriter Retreat 7/29-7/31

The Madison Songwriters Guild is teaming up with folk icon Tret Fure for a Songwriter Retreat called “The Joy of Self Expression,” scheduled for July 29-31 at Bethel Horizons in Dodgeville. Last year’s retreat with Tret got rave reviews from everyone who attended, so put this one on your calendar now.

The cost is $249 including the workshop and 2 mights of lodging and meals, or $449 for 2 people. Contact Rich Baumann for questions or registration, or you can register directly on Tret’s site.

Songwriters in the Round – July 27th @ 7 pm

This month’s Songwriters in the Round at The Brink Lounge features Jim SchwallTim Southwick Johnson, and David Cox.

Madison Songwriters Guild’s premier event features plenty of original music starring a rotating cast of local and regional songwriters for a paltry $5.

Recording Opportunity – July 23rd @ 1pm

Monthly Song Critique – 7/20 @ 7 pm

MSG holds its monthly song critique this Wednesday, July 20th at 7 p.m. at Noodles & Co., 3600 University Avenue.

Bring a new or nearly new song or lyric to play live or on a CD and get instant feedback from local songwriters, and give some of your own. Check out the Events page for more details, and we’ll see you there!

Songwriter Night @ Water House Foods – 7/14

This Thursday night, Rich Baumann hosts an intimate songwriter night featuring performers Tim Southwick Johnson, John Duggleby and Meaghan Owens sharing original music at Water House Foods in Lake Mills at 7:00 p.m.

Cover is only $5 and there will be a chance for attendees to get up and play a song or two at 6:30. Take a short drive out to Water House Foods and support great music at a great new venue!

Tune Up Your Songwriting Workshop – 7/13

Come to the Willy St. Co-op East on Wednesday, July 13th for the Tune Up Your Songwriting workshop hosted by Rich Baumann with special guests Tim Southwick Johnson and John Duggleby.

Bring your instrument if you are interested in sharing an original song at the end of the workshop or come with a recording of a favorite song for the group to listen to and discuss. A CD player will be available.

This event starts with a 5:30 potluck/meet and greet followed by the 6:30 workshop. Admission is a suggested $5-15 donation.

Willy St. Co-op East is located at 1221 Williamson St. in Madison.

*Note that Willy St. is under heavy construction, so out of consideration for Co-op shoppers, please park on a side street.

Songwriter Night @ Talula – 7/12

The Madison Songwriters Guild will again join forces with Talula’s acoustic jam for a monthly songwriter night on Tuesday, July 12th at 8 p.m. The jam gives songwriters a chance to play a few solo songs or to get up on stage and jame with a top-notch house band.

Talula is already known for great food and music, so this event will become a songwriter favorite. Talula is located at 802 Atlas Avenue, Madison, WI 53714, or call (608) 441-1977.
