Songwriter Showcase/Showdown – Wed, 8/1

Head over to the Bourbon Street Grille in Monona at 7:30 pm and experience MSG’s newest edition to the local songwriting scene, the Songwriter Showcase/Showdown. John Duggleby hosts this new monthly event featuring great area songwriters, followed by an “American Idol”-type competition for original songs (MSG membership required) and an open mic for anyone who wants to perform their compositions. This month John welcomes MSGs and unique song stylists John Crossman and John Jacobs.

Songwriters in the Round – Wed, July 25th

Madison Songwriters Guild holds our premier event, Songwriters in the Round, at The Brink Lounge on E. Washington this Wednesday, July 25th starting at 7:00 pm. This month’s guest performers are Amanda Pool, Stephen Lee Rich and Jim Schwall.

Song Critique – Wed, 7/18

MSG holds its monthly song critique on Wednesday, July 18th at 7 p.m. at Noodles & Company on University Avenue. Bring a song or lyric to play live or on a CD and get instant feedback from local songwriters, and give some of your own. Incomplete, new or nearly new songs are encouraged.

Head over to the Bourbon Street Grille in Monona on Friday, July 6 and experience MSG’s newest edition to the local songwriting scene, the Songwriter Showcase/Showdown. John Duggleby hosts this new monthly event featuring great area songwriters, followed by an “American Idol”-type competition for original songs (MSG membership required) and an open mic for anyone who wants to perform their compositions.

Weather permitting, we’ll be on the rooftop patio overlooking the Yahara River.  This month John welcomes MSG president Stephen Lee Rich and winner of last month’s Song Showdown, Amanda Pool.

Non-members can join MSG for the low the annual membership fee of $25.

Songwriters Retreat – 6/22 to 6/24

It’s not too late to sign up for Madison Songwriters Guild’s 3rd annual Songwriters Retreat from June 22-24th, 2012.

This year’s retreat will be hosted by Dan Hazlett. Dan is a producer, sound engineer, playwright, musician, singer, songwriter and businessman who has achieved notoriety in events and songwriting contests nationwide, and has worked with some truly top notch musicians.

Cost is $289 with some scholarships available and includes meals and lodging at the Bethel Horizons Retreat Center, 4651 County Road Zz in Dodgeville, WI, 53533.

***We’ve added a new feature to the critique called the Monthly Song Challenge. In June, the challenge is aimed at those of us who procrastinate: Complete a song that you’ve started or always thought about writing but haven’t started and bring it to the critique to share. We will present a new challenge for July at June’s critique.
