Song Showdown Winner Announced!

By admin

Congratulations to 2010’s Song Showdown winner, Wolfgang Lochner!

Wolfgang took home bragging rights and a nice bundle of prizes including an Alchemy gift certificate and some recording time at local, award-winning Paradyme Productions recording studio when his song “MC Hammer” won the night on Wednesday, December 8th at The Alchemy

Nine fine local songwriters competed in the final, which was the culmination of a year of monthly Song Showdown winners. The caliber of the songs was so good that at one point, one of the judges was heard to remark that an enormous tie might be the outcome.

The Madison Songwriters Guild would like to thank Jim Schwall for hosting the Song Showdown every month, and the venue, The Alchemy, for their support.

Annual Membership Meeting – 11/21

By admin

Madison Songwriters Guild will hold its Annual Membership meeting on Sunday Nov.21st at Noodles & Co., 3600 University Avenue. There will be a “meet & greet” from 1-2 pm and the meeting will start at 2:00pm. We’ll be electing Board of Director members and officers and plotting the course for MSG for the coming year. With any luck the actual meeting will take less than an hour.

New members are encouraged to attend and there will be someone on hand to sign you up if you want to join. This is a great opportunity to find out what this group is all about and to meet some local songwriters, so come with your questions and suggestions and talk to members, both experienced and new.

Bring your instruments, we’ll be having a song-circle after the meeting!

We mean the fact that it’s ALL KEYBOARDS!  Between the jazz-based music of Nancy Rost, the pop/rock influenced work of Hannah Busse, and the 19th Century Art Song style of Jen Logueflower, this SIR is one you won’t want to miss. We hear that they are planning some cross-overs and collaborations  as well.

Note the time change: From April through August, Songwriters in the Round (SIR) will start at 7:30 p.m. on the 4th Wed. of the month at The Brink Lounge. For more information, check out the Events page.
