Rich Baumann is excited about songwriters playing music together, so he started this opportunity for musicians to share original songs once a month in the relaxed atmosphere of Water House Foods in Lake Mills. February’s evening will feature Rich, Tracy Jane Comer, and a few surprises. We hope to see you there!

MSG is now the “Madison Songwriters Guild.” MSG believes the name change, while replacing only 4 letters, better emphasizes the craft involved in creating songs. There are a lot of other exciting changes going on around here, so check back often!

MSG joins family and friends, musicians and music lovers, in celebrating the life of Dale Kidd, who passed away on December 12th. Dale was a long-time MSG member and local songwriting staple who will be remembered for his big heart, easy laugh, and willingness to join in on a tune with his guitar or voice. MSG’s Songwriters in the Round will host a special event for the holidays. Rather than the usual song swap, we will present the 11th Annual Christmas Show (for people who can’t stand the holidays) full of seasonal music of the sacred, secular, cynical, and silly.
The Acts:
Tom Kastle - A fine, contemporary-style songwriter as well as an expert interpreter of traditional maritime songs. He’s got a holiday tune for us that he performed live on Madison’s 105.5 Triple M radio station last year.
Andina and Rich – Music and comedy are the hallmarks here. They have a larger than expected stash of original, Holiday tunes including Sandy Andina’s new classic, “It Sucks Being Sick At Christmas”.
Ingrid Frances Stark – Ingrid’s work with pennywhistle, songs, and poetry is always a delight.
This year we are also planning a tribute to the late Soupy Sales! Whether someone will get a pie in the face or we’ll just sing “Pakalafika” has not yet been decided. You’ll have to be there to find out.
We may even have a few surprise guests, TBA.
All that plus the now-traditional:
- Sing-along version of Walt Kelly’s “Deck Us All With Boston Charlie”
- The Human-O-Phone doing Doug Hamilton’s wild parody of “The Twelve Gifts of Christmas” (about the variety and diversity of SPAM)
- The Year-End Review – we’ll go over some of the stranger news items of 2009
All the important stuff:
Place: The Brink Lounge, 701 E. Washington, Madison
Date: December 23, 2009
Time: 6:30 p.m.
Cost: $5
